A mechanic told me aveo 09 there is no external filter on the 09 aveo 5.....fuel filter is inside the tank, part of the fuel pump.
But is this not a fuel filter?

That is the Charcoal Canister. If you don't know what that is I'll be happy to explain it. Your mechanic is correct, the Fuel Filter is the "sock" on the pump inside the tank.Quote:

have a look here. 2009 should be similar, although different countries have variances on the feature/mechanics of the car.
The 09 Aveo5 (US Version) should not have a user replaceable fuel filter. Trust me, I spent at least 20 minutes tracing the fuel system up and down on my car looking for it.Quote:

Thanks guys, I thought it looked a bit to complex to be a fuel filter, now I know... so much for a $10 fix :(
