if you haven't torn the Third Brake Light apart yet, I had the same problem. The reason there's 5 bulbs in the housing is because burning out one, or two, or three won't matter. I took my light assembly apart very carefully with a very thin screwdriver (there are 4 clips)to get the red lense off. Then 2 philips screws, only to find I could not remove and replace the bulbs. New unit runs around $85 unless you can find one at the junkyard.
      good luck.

i was actually able to get the bulbs out with a bit of force, but then ruined a second one in the process. i did eventually find the four clips around the lens. right now i have the three center ones only. i figure its as good as anything else.

Pry the red lens plastic out carefully. It's hard to pull the bulbs out. I doing wrapping some duct tape around the glass with a"tail"of tape eases the task significantly. While you're at it, order some red emitting leds and leave the red lens out for a cleaner look: clear when off, red (and quick) when on.
