Copy and paste from the 2008 owners manual:
Hold Mode
If your vehicle’s transmission has hold mode, you can
select this mode to drive with some characteristics
of a manual transmission. With hold mode turned on,
the automatic transmission will stay in a specific
gear range.
Press the HOLD button on the shift lever console to turn
on hold mode. Press the button again to turn off hold
mode, and return to normal automatic transmission
operation.
For the Hatchback, the HOLD light will light up on the
secondary information center. For the Sedan, the HOLD
light will light up on the instrument panel cluster.
See Hold Mode Light on page 3-48
let me know how that works out too. it didnt for me. very randomly, i'm driving say about 60or 70, then the check engine light /hold light turn on simultaneously. the car begins to lose power and slows down. i turn the car off, then it runs ok again with only the check engine light on untill the hold light comes back on, cycle starts up again. it didnt do it for about 2 months and just started up again.
here is what i found but havent run through. i'm almost at the point at taking it to the dealer and spending $$ before i have another car payment!
Check tps sensor (throttle position sensor in backside of the throttle cable) and map sensor (manifold absolute pressure on front little 1 inch sensor with vacuum line) make sure there plugged in. the ecm (engine control module driver side inner fender) and tcm (transmission control module under dash) both need the data to know when to upshift and increase fuel/air. Otherwise the computer runs default values and guesses off of other sensors giving poor performance. also disconnect battery for 15 min. usually resets aveo service lights if you dont have a scanner.
Hold light flashing was a plug unplugged thanks for help. this is such a weak site. Thank God the Chevelle site isn't like this
which plug was it?
This just happened to me after replacing my timing belt.
It was caused by having a bad connection to the sensor on the intake hose, So I ditched the china sensor and put on the old one and the HOLD and Check engine light disappeared. I still unplugged the battery to reset the computer just in case. Now my power is back,
