hold light flashing and check engine light on

I recently replaced all the valves on my 05 Aveo. After putting everything back together I started the car and it seemed fine. I went for a test drive and the hold light and engine light flashed. The car would not shift into 4th gear. When I bought the car the valves were already bent so this was the first time I drove the car. I thought I may have had a bad transmission. Well after a lot of staring at the engine I found that I left a vacuum line not plugged in the back of the intake manifold that goes to the valve cover. Who would have guessed such a little thing could cause such a headache. If the car was took to a dealer I bet it would have cost hundreds of dollars to throw parts at the problem. Hope this helps someone with the same problem.

Well after I appeared to fix my problem I started to drive the car for the first time since I found the vacuum hose loose. The hold light came back on. After looking for pics of aveo engine bays it appears the hose doesn't plug up to the valve cover it goes somewhere else toward the back of the motor. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Can you post a pic of the mystery hose?

Size: 224.2 KB. I borrowed this pic. It is the little black tube on the back of the intake. I think it plugs up on the bottom of the canister on the firewall but I am not sure

Yes, the small tube from the (manifold tpms?) gold canister goes to the firewall. You should have a small black canister then just to the right a small solenoid, the tiny lines run to those, one under the small canister, one to the solenoid. The larger hose connects to the evap purge line under the intake. If I can I will try to snap a pic later and id the hoses,, but currently on the road.

I hooked the small line from back of intake to bottom of canister and took battery terminals loose. The light came back on. I guess I will try to go to AutoZone later to have codes checked. If you could still take a pic so I could make sure it is right it would help. Thanks

Sorry for the delay AK, I could not get a decent pic of the routing on my car, not enough light - so I did one better, here is the routing diagram with the components labeled. So we can see from the diagram that Item 6 (the gold canister on the intake) goes to item 7 (IMTV/VGIS solenoid) located on the firewall. Then the other small line will just tap into the intake plenum, then connects to item 8, the small black reservoir can right next to the solenoid item 7 on the firewall. This should get you routed correctly, if not let me know and I will try to get a decent shot of the lines, but is very hard from a photo since it is so tight in that area. When I follow the lines with my fingers they match the diagram, so this should explain the correct routing.

If you need a larger copy of the diagram PM me your email and I can email you the PDF file that should be larger than the attachment.

Thank for the diagram, that looks like how I have it now . I took the car to AutoZone and got codes p0405 for EGR, code P0135 oxygen sensor and p0300 random missfire. I hope the missfire is from the other two codes which is possible. The car sounds good and runs good so I guess I will start with EGR components first by cleaning and testing them. I guess it didn't help plugging them up wrong , may have got oil in the system.
