How to access rear shock absorber top mounting nut?

It might be my inexperience with this vehicle, but is there an easy way to access the top mount nut in the aveo5 hatchback? I pulled back the plastic and felt lining in the trunk to reveal the top of the wheel well but the top of the mount seems to be obscured by the steel plating... . I had new shocks and struts installed last year but since then the bushing seems to have loosened because I have an occasional knocking on the right rear.

i have the exact thing going on in my 2006 HB on the right rear to !. How much did it cost you to get your rear shocks replaced? I have that loose or worn out upper rubber bushing problem to. I was just quoated an outrageous price, for replacing the shocks with 'Monroe Sensi-Track' shocks. I looked online and i see the price at around $70 each,...they want to charge OVER $700 to replace them! With the ones. So i know it is a big screw job at that price. IF i could find out what others pay, i could go shop around. Thanks.

The amount the shop charged that I went to in LA was more for the front than the rears (I think rears were 60 and I bought a kit on amazon). In the meantime I found this thread as well which explains a little bit why there's no rear top mount access.

The suspension was great for maybe a few weeks after getting it done, but then started to clunk again soon after which leads me to believe it's a worn bushing...there have been other threads on here detailing using modified vw bushings to eliminate the problem, but I have to ask the shop I took it to in the first place what they'd charge or even if they think it's worth it.

I brought my Aveo into the shop for annual inspection this past summer. They were running a promo and said they would replace front and rear suspension (shocks/struts/springs) for $400. I priced it out a week or two earlier doing it myself and it was the same price.

Wow! All 4 sides $400 in NY? And so close to the city. I cant get why I am being told these outrageous prices to replace two shocks only. Not struts, just shocks.I am hoping to do it myself, if I could get my reply to my question on here about how to get the top part off, the mount/bushing. From 'Petrified Rabbit'...he seems to have THE answer to doing this right. Guess he is busy, and hasnt seen my begging him to reply to my question yet.

I'm not sure if its the same on the hatch but the top shock bolts up through the inner wheel arch. Take the rim and tire off and stick your head in there and look up. Should be to bolts on top and one on bottom to completley remove shock

it does look like that, but some part has to be jacked up and supported to take the damn shock off , to even replace the top mount/bushing parts. I can do the replacing ,if i could get it jacked up. BUT people on here, that I trust, and others, are saying the entire back suspension has to be supported by jack stands to take the shock off, or it will fall apart or something. I dont know why. I would think if I just jack up one side with the jack that comes with the spare tire, and take off the tire, then that would give me access to the shock, and replace the top parts. Why it has to be supported I dont know. I won't be under the car, the shock stretches out if the wheel on that side 'falls' down some, so I could lower the jack and make the distance closer to put the shock back on,if it is to far away, once I get the top parts on. But everyone says I MUST support the entire back end, with jack stands and a floor jack. To do even that. So...I am now stuck
