Thanks p.r!
Do you mean I wouldn't need to use a press for the vw bushings as opposed to the eBay set? They are less expensive than the cross-fit models on eBay by ~$20, but I would rather have the ones that go in the easiest.

you "need" a press for both, however, you can get buy using a large c clamp, or something similar like most of the DIY threads that replace these bushings. Mostly because to use a press, you would need to take the axle out all the way, and a C clamp or similar will allow you to just prop the front of the axle up will the struts, and such hang the back side in the car.
I have a 2008 Aveo with the same problem. It only has 37000 miles on it and the bushings are already shot. My sister had the same thing happen to her 2009. This must be a problem specific to the Aveo. I feel the dealer should repair this under warranty. I will let you know what they say when I see the dealer Monday.
Thanks rabbit. I was kind of foolishly hoping I could just slide them in with grease if they were the right diameter. Most likely I'll have to have someone do the install for me. I'm gonna buy the newer 6R0501541A bushings as I've read on VW forums that these are what people are using instead ofMeyle 1J0501541C because they have more rubber padding between the metal rings. From what I've read both are the same size, so hopefully they'll last a while. I'll try to put up pix of them when they arrive.
Does anyone have pictures or how easy bushings were to install? 2006 aveo 207,234 miles
IF you have never changed a bushing in any control arm, it is hard to say if it is easy or not. Usually taking the old one out is 90% of how hard the job is... I've had some come right out, press out easily. I have had to torch, cut, hack and saw out some (multiples of these methods on tough ones). I have also broken a few arms trying to press them out.
I am going to try and change the ones in my wife's 2007 Aveo5 tomorrow. I bought the Moog bushings from RockAuto.com a couple of years ago but have kept dreading the job. I can wait no longer. I will try to post some pictures. BTW, the car has 332,300 miles on it - 5 spd manual.
