      Ignition Harness Wires

So I finished paying off my Aveo this summer (YAY!) and in order for me to get my title, I'd have to give them back the GPS module they've installed. They offered to take it out free of charge, but the car isn't working, so I got my hands dirty and did it myself. Let me just say that I have made peace with my vehicle not working, but seeing that someone did a bad wiring job got under my skin after a while.

Now that I've cooled down, I wondering if there is a site that would let me order the part, or at least the correct wires so i can fix this problem?

You might have to go to the dealer for that part. It would help to pull out the specific harness that has the issue. Maybe put a picture or two up on the forum and we can either laugh (never at you ) or offer some advice on how to fix it. Once you get the part out, then maybe a visit to a junk yard?

The last pic is of my car. I was going to go to a junk yard, but thought I'd post here first.

i think i know why your car doesn't start :P

But there are two serious possible solutions, first, I do not think that harness is a small section. you will be doing a good portion of the dash harness i think. That means you either replace it all you splice in a section, which leads to the second solution. Replace the wires properly. And you will not need to buy anything. If you can't, find someone who can, it looks like they used solder. But they just didn't have enough wire joined. Nor does it appear (unless you removed it) that they did anything more than just tape it. when they should have shrunk wrapped each connection.

I would fix what's there. If you can get enough of that wire out to work on it safely would be best.

If you know how to solder then that's good.

      1) You will need heat shrink maybe about 5 to 7 mm before shrunk. Cut each section of shrink wrap about 10 mm past both sides of the joint.
      2) Slide the shrink wrap on the wires before soldering
      3) heat up each of the wire and put solder on it.
      4) the butt the ends together and heat up with the iron.
      5) slide on shrink wrap and use a hair dryer to shrink it

You get points for putting up good pictures and descriptions!

Yea, I removed the GPS module from there and you're right, they only had the wires taped. The way they had the GPS wired in it left me with not enough wire to play with. I figured i'd have to solder the wires back, but I'm just lost as to where to get the proper wires from.

Yea, I've soldered before, so it should not be a problem for me. I just wished I had enough wires to play with. Thanks for the points

you just go back further into the harness. if you have to "add" its ok. as long as you use the appropriate wire.

I would think that if you unsnap the clip and pull the harness, you will get enough wire.

I always "tie" and twist my wires, and then heat them and solder them already linked.

Wow, so they (some lot I assume?) hacked your car's wiring to install some creepy GPS tracker? I think whoever hacked up your wiring should be on the hook for that fix, at least the costs.
