      Intermittent no start (resolved)

Just bought a 2005 5 door and the next morning it wouldn't start, but then would 15 minutes later. Next morning, same thing. Cranks fine, but that's it. Happened twice more before the weekend.

Pulled a plug wire and arced it to a valve cover bolt with a screwdriver and had fire. Last time it happened it would start for 2 seconds and die. This happened probably 15 times and then it started and I drove it home on Saturday. Wouldn't start again at all. Put a little fuel in the intake and it would run until the gas ran out and then mabey get a shot or so from the pump (had momentary throttle response) and die.

      No trouble codes??!!

Anywho, checked all the fuses and connections, tried switching relays and nothing. Sooo...I installed a new fuel pump and then I was back to the 2 seconds running and die.

Don't know if it mattered, but the key was in the switch when I disconnected the battery. Tried the spare electronic key and it ran like new. Put the other key back in and got the same result. Weird stuff. Must have gotten bit by the security when I disconnected with the first key in the switch...dunno.

so swapping the key fixed it? or you still have the issue?

could be the ignition switch? are you certain it is cutting fuel as the problem?

My Wife had an issue like that with her car and it was the micro chip reader for the keys. We had it switch out and no more issues.

No more issues. By same result I meant that it worked fine with key 1 too. In fact, I'm still using key 1 after starting it with key 2. Only used 2 to start it that one time. I had pulled the battery cable with key 1 in the ignition for the fuel pump install. I don't know all of the reasons this could occur, but it's still working fine.
Regarding the pump, the first time it failed to start and then did after 15 minutes, it sputtered really bad and smoked when it did finally start. The second time, I got about a mile from home and it started acting up for about the next mile. The last time before it finally stopped working it had lost power and had a hesitation trying to accelerate getting back on the highway. The pump I pulled out turned out to be from a junkyard. It has the tell tale yellow paint numbering on the top, and get this, on the side of the pump in the gas tank! Can you imagine trying to figure out why you had bright yellow gook in your injectors?!
