massive oil leak HELP.....

I have my sister's 2005 Aveo in the garage after after the timing belt tensioner disintegrated. The pieces fell to the bottom of the timing cover and jammed the belt. I have torn it down and rebuilt the thing with a rebuilt head . new water pump, new head bolts gaskets etc I fired it up and massive oil leak coming from the front of the engine.
I checked the galley plugs are not leaking, replaced the valve cover gasket, At this point I suspect the pump got damaged from this. Is there anything I am missing? I don't have a great deal of familiarity with this engine.

I can't see where the oil is coming from but it's above the oil pan and lots of it....

oil filter on tight? you say front of engine and then above oil pan, but did a valve cover gasket, which part you consider the front?

did you put a head gasket in when you did the head? new torque to yield bolts?

By front of engine I mean where the timing belt is.

Yes to new head gasket, new bolts and new valve cover gasket

Could I have put the head gasket on upside down? I don't think so but am at a loss

i doubt the head gasket would go on upside down without looking "off" but if sure its possible, but it would still seal out the engine. The oil pump assemble is on the front, right at the crank pulley. very possible if there is damage to the belt/debris, that the main seal is torn or leaking. Its hard to say what you might or might not have seen while the timing belt and head were off.

Pull the spark plug wires off and have someone crank the engine for you while you watch where the oil is coming from.

If it's hemorrhaging a lot of oil it sounds like the engine oil seal ruptured. I've had that happen. If the car is more than 10 years old, that's quite likely, as it's due to age.

Typically, on most engines it's good to do the timing belt and water pump at the same time, as they are in the same area. It's costly $$$$ to do all of it, but if the car has low mileage and you intend to keep it another decade, it's worth doing.

Check the oil pump. Those gaskets are crap.

The rebuilding of the head in this wave engine included replacing the intake and exhaust camshaft gaskets as well as numerous other gaskets with a e-bay gasket set. The brand new intake cam gasket was leaking large amounts of oil. It and the exhaust gasket were removed undamaged and replaced with new NAPA SKF gaskets which look very similar. NO leaks now. Problem solved, I am getting really good at timing an Aveo engine. Why new gaskets properly installed failed I have no idea. Rocky

FML just set the timing all all that stuff I believe mines still leaking as well. Only thing I didn't do under the timing cover was the oil pump because that was a whole separate even further can of worms regretting that now though I think the pump gasket was leaking more than my cam seals were. I had the oil pan supported so not too sure other than putting the engine mount back on at some point how to get that all done. Super awkward with the engine in but possibly save a bit coolant cost that way. Looks like i'll be out some more oil and coolant to get this fixed.

Harbor freight sells a cheap transverse engine support bar. With this you can do all you need to do.

Might get one of those if I can't do it without it but going to try after awhile to do it a unprofessional way first
