My Aveo Has Problems. (sputtering, hold light, check engine light)

Ok recently I have noticed a few problems with my 2005 Chevy Aveo Sedan Special Edition. I noticed that recently when coming to stops and driving my car sputters like it may stall or is skipping. Then tonight I was driving and my hold light started blinking. Then the check engine light began blinking. I pulled over and stopped and both stopped. I drove home with sputtering a little but with no more blinking lights. Any ideas as what may be the cause?Name: 2015-03-08 04.57.30.jpg

You too can become the master of ODB! Just go to Amazon and buy a Bluetooth to ODBII adapter. You can use your smart phone and read the codes. Amazon.com: Vgate Bluetooth Scan Tool OBD2 OBDII Scanner for TORQUE APP ANDROID: Automotive

No smart phone, try this: http://www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiScan-MS300-Diagnostic-Vehicles/dp/B001LHVOVK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1426157848&sr=8-5&keywords=odb

You can go to a parts store and sometimes they can read the codes for you. You can use the search function in the upper right and get all sorts of cool info.

We need more information to help you. Today's engines use computer codes to describe their issues. Until we have the codes, we can't help you. So get the codes, look them up and then we can offer more.

A blinking check engine light in indicative of cylinder misfire, which explains the sputtering.

How many miles on your car? Have you replaces plugs and/or wires yet. I had a similar problems on my 2005 Aveo during cold starts. Turns out I had a defective coil pack, which thankfully, is pretty cheap. Amazon.com: Standard Motor Products UF-503 Coil: Automotive.

If that is not the problem, I would check/clean your throttle body, TPS, and/or fuel injectors.

Mine did that. Changed spark plugs and wires, cleaned throttle body. You may have a leaking valve cover gasket causing poor spark. Just my 2¢.

I take that 2 Cents and yes, that is my next project, the valve cover gasket. Just have to work with 2 people and get the day down where they can be together. Because I am new at car repair, and yes, I am learning, and yes, I am taking notes.

Did you get you a scanner? Did the coil pack fix things? Usually if you got the right part in the first place, then the check engine light will go away.
