Need to force for close hood

Your hood opens up over 6ft? does it stand completely vertical or something?

I don't think there are any 'hood springs' on an Aveo. The hood has a prop rod to hold it up when open, like most Asian cars. A hood latch spring, yes, but no actual springs on the hood to keep it up - the balance springs on either side of the hood were humongous on Caddies and Chevys of decades ago. (My '88 Chevy still has them).

Lube everything liberally, both the hinges and the latch, and see if there is improvement.
