      Question Noise on shifter.

      Hello to all,

I have a 2009 Aveo with 37,500 miles on it, that makes noise from the shifter.
The car was bought new on Oct. 2009, and has been running great.
The car started making a noise that came from the shifter, the noise is very close to the one made when you have coins in the ask tray and they vibrate when driving. So we took it to the dealer to be inspected, they mentioned at first that the exhaust pipe was vibrating and that they lubed and adjusted it, the noise was back the same day the car was returned to us, so we took it back to the dealer, the head mechanic rode with us to hear the noise and mentioned it was the shifter mechanism, so they ordered it and a few days after we took the car to the dealer to have them install the new mechanism, the noise went away for exactly 2 days.
the car kept going in and out of the dealer with no solution.

Has anyone had this problem? Any thoughts or ideas to eliminate this will be highly appreciated.

This noise is not a deal breaker, but, should not be there.

      Thanks,

      Carlos

Thank you fpr your reply Sarah,

The car had the shifter replaced, and noise was eliminated at first, and has been gradually returning, unfortunately the car is out warranty. This noise does not affect the car in any way, just would be nice for it to go away.

it would seem the tolerances of the shifter need to be tightened up. Is it a manual or automatic?

Why would the lube the exhaust?

This is Manual, I Asked the same questio, why lube the exhaust? The reasoning they mentioned about lubing the exhaust was that vibration from it was filtering to the stick.

      Dear all,
Just a quick update. I took the car to the dealer once again, and they mention that it is considered a normal condition by GM on the manual transmission version. They have had many with the same issue, and replacing the shifter mechanism does not fix the situation permanently.

I would pop the boot off the console and see if there is anything in the cup that holds the shifter pieces. AS well as adding some lube to the joints to try stiffening them.

Mine makes no noise, but i also shortened the shift pattern which tightened up the shifter considerably.
