Oil leak between pan and tranny housing

1.6 2012 auto. 3 weeks of ownership today and started to smell burnt oil. 67,000 kms only

After a lot of searching I found some fresh oil between the tranny housing and the oil sump pan. Just right at the bottom in between. Could this be a leak from the oil pan gasket? Hope its not the engine rear crank seal.

Is this a common issue? Surprised to have a leak on a low mileage engine.

      Thanks in advance

Welcome to the Forum, Brit01 - can you take a picture and post it by chance? Did you check the oil filter? I once had a loose oil filter and when the oil leaked it ended up there.

      Hi

      Many thanks for your help.
attached is a photo of the oil leak. Seems to be coming from within the connection between the sump and tranny housing.

I didn't get an update that you had posted a picture, well done btw! I am a weekend mechanic so was just putting in my two cents. Looks pretty clean and you have access to a hoist. If it continues to leak from that gasket someone more experienced is going to have to chime in.

I may plan to remove the pan during my week off at Easter. Got the tranny oil to change also but this pan looks complicated to remove with the cat converter in the way etc. Thinking of using loctite 587 to reapply. Once I can get a good look to see if its the sump gasket or leaking from the rear crankshaft seal. At 67000 kms a seal should not be leaking but car manufacturers get cheaper and cheaper so could be. Thoughts anyone?
