a oil pressure gauge that works? is this a trick question?
no no no. I need to see if my oil pump is shot or not. so i wanna get some readings and dont want to have to run wires and hook a guage up. i dont want any more guages in my car.
is there anything that like taps into where the oil pressure sensor sits or sumtin?

You can go to a dealer and have them hook it up to the Tech II or find out if anyone you know has a scan gauge that reads oil pressure. Generally speaking, especially on cars like the Aveo that do not have a guage in the dash, the check engine light will come on and flash when their is little or no oil pressure.
Well, I didnt want to run around the web showing my stupidity, but I guess I got to man up and just take the shame.

It sounds as if you have introduced air into the system. Do a complete oil and filter change except leave the drain plug off for several hours to "burp" the system. Refill with four quarts and run at high idle for a few minutes. If the light comes back on unfortunately you will need a new pump.
Definetly will be doing that. Cant do it now though as tomorrow I am going to WI for the weekend. Is it ok to run the car as it is for short periods of time? I mean I still got to get this thing home.
Do you have access to an OBD-II code reader? It may give you a clue as to what is going on. I cannot recommend driving the vehicle for an extended period of time without knowing what the underlying problem is. You can permanently damage your engine and even have it seize on you unless you know whats going on with it.
I do have a scanner, but my car isnt throwing any codes. Its just a oil pressure light and I dont think it would show up in the scanner as its not a CEL. Just the little oil can symbol flickering.
Two more questions...is the oil level going down at all after you have topped it off? and are you hearing ANY noises at all that are out of the ordinary?
