      P0053 code

      Hey guys,
I replaced the O2 sensor on the side of my engine, which I believe I installed the correct sensor, I got from rockauto (NTK25189) and I am now getting the P0053 code. Previously I was getting P0171, before the install of a new sensor. Any help?

Edit: Disregard my advice in this post! See 2010AveoLT's post below for accurate information

The 09 Aveo seems to be especially sensitive to any kind of "aftermarket" O2 sensor (even though I think they are made by the same people) since their heater resistance may not exactly match the OEM spec. Unless you try another and luck out with one, I would suggest getting the "official" AC Delco for O2 sensors.

I would try reaching out to RockAuto and see if they'll let you pay the price difference and exchange it.

if i remember correctly, (and its on page 9-806 of my factory service manual) you're supposed to perform a heater resistance learn reset (that is pretty much how its exactly worded in the FSM) with a scan tool. i'll be doing that when my new downstream sensor comes in on saturday.

Didn't even know there was a such a procedure, learned something new today. The FSM I have access to is online only and leaves a lot to be desired in how they categorize repair procedures.

      I gladly stand corrected.

I know this is an old thread, but any idea which solution resolved the P0053? AC Delco sensor, or a learn reset? Is there a way to perform a reset without a scan tool? I’ve cleared the code several times but it keeps coming back.

On my Chevy Cobalt, if you unhook the battery for 30 minutes it clears the ECM memory. You could try that on the Aveo after clearing the code and see if it forces a relearn.
