Hello, I have a 2005 Aveo. I had heard that the timing belts in these cars had a tendency to blow after 60,000 miles. So, at 67,000, I got my timing belt replaced at a service center that was charging half of what it would've cost at the dealership. After getting the service, my car now has a rough idle. Whenever I am in park or waiting in traffic, the engine intermittently shakes the car - it is definitely noticeable. Anytime I'm giving the car gas there is no problem - still very smooth. I took the car back to the service center and left it there for a day. He replaced the spark plugs and told me that, after he talked with a certified Chevy technician, that this particular problem is one of those rare gremlins that happens with some Aveos after their timing belt is changed. He then told me that according to the certified technician, the "engine misfires" will not damage my car. Although I can certainly live with the mild annoyance of the misfires, my gut tells me that this is doing slow, but steady damage to the engine. When I asked about how to fix the problem, he said that I would need to replace all the valves, which, I'm pretty sure I was trying to avoid by getting the timing belt changed in the first place. Anyone know what I should do?
