did the dealership "repositioned and lubricated right and left control arm bushings" ? they should have replaced them.
they are not expensive, but they are a little labor intensive. Make sure you get an alignment with it.

I dont know about all dealerships but the Toyota dealership where I work at, if a warranty repair is done and the complaint is re-established, even after warranty, as long as it is within a reasonable time frame or mileage would still be covered. From what you stated the dealership did, if you have more issues in the next few months, or within a few hundred miles, they shouldnt have any problems fixing it, now if a year goes by or you have a few thousand miles racked up, thats a different story
Also, in most cases, if you feel their is still an issue after a few days, contact your dealership and let them know you are unsatisfied that you want the bushings replaced. the dealership should either go ahead and replace the bushings or work something out with you.
Ok! It was A dealership, but not the one where I got my car-they aren't a Chevy dealer, so they said go to any Chevy dealer. (They'll do warranty work after the factory one expires) I looked up a place nearby in the phone book-I got the distinct impression the at the place I took it to, that they didn't want to work on it. They tried to send me home saying nothing was wrong with it (without even MOVING the car-just starting it and saying "I don't hear any noise...bring it back in a couple thousand miles if it gets worse. You still have 5,000 mi of factory warranty left.") This is REALLY what the guy told me. I explained it ends in April, and they took it. Anyways, that's what I thought; that it was not a good fix, and I plan to take it somewhere else and just asking nicely, "Please fix this right, before my factory warranty is up." Oh, and alignment? Does a messed up bushing mess up your alignment? Or does it need adjustment after bushings are replaced?
if the control arm have moved because of worn bushings, and you have aligned the car with the bad bushings, when you install new bushing and move the control arms back to where they should be, the amount you adjusted will then be the amount they are off..
should be part of the warranty work.
Oh, ok! That makes sense! It doesn't say on the service sheet that the alignment has been adjusted... also, fourth day driving it since the work-absolutely NO noise, today. It got less and less noisy the last 3 days... is this a good thing? When it was still making noise, I knew I could get in for proper work, no prob... but now, I'm not sure if it needs it, or if anybody would even take it for warranty work... just 'cos it was making noise for a while after. Any thoughts on what to do at this point? It seemed ok to drive, and I had to be some places.
well, its a "cheap" repair, drive it.
Yeah... That's not super cool, but it doesn't make any noise anymore. As long as it's not rattling and sqealing while I drive around, I'm content enough. Thanks for all the info, guys! You nailed it, rabbit! And if it gives me any more trouble in the near future, I'll go with that advice, paulsaveo!
Another thought here..just throwin it out there..Your in Colorado correct? elevation 6000 ft..prolly cold as piss right? lol..your engine knock/chatter might just be due to cold oil making its way to the bearings throughout the motor..also the viscosity of the oil in cold weather will do this. just a thought! im not saying this IS the issue.
As for the control arm bushings (or spaceships as i call them due to their shape..) are a common thing on pretty much all of GM's throw-away cars.. ALLLLLL the cavaliers, and sunfires have them as well and they all need replaced from time to time. they rubber tends to seperate from the metal sleeve and cause noise. Grandams and Gran Prix's have them also, and the GM mini vans too. Its a common thing so dont be surprised that if in 40K or less you'll need em done again. ive done TONS of them and looked at mine before i bought it.
As for alignment, keep an eye on tire wear, and make sure it doenst "pull" one way or the other..also how strait the steering wheel is..might not hurt to have it checked.
Well, it seems straght as an arrow, zaveo! Doesn't pull either way... I didn't mention earlier, but the mechanics attributed the "knocking" to exhaust noise; pipes heating up. It has been cold as piss lately, but the noise is present even on 55* F days, still. If it is the viscosity of the oil, would it help to use full synthetic? It still has whatever the previous owner had in there... I'm gonna be due for a change in about 500 mi. Thanks for the thoughts and info!
