Replaced Control Arm Bushing
Don't have the write up yet, but the pictures are up. It was acting like a bad wheel bearing so I picked up a wheel bearing and puller. Once I removed the wheel I saw the metal insert in the bushing was incredibly sloppy allowing the entire control arm to move. Luckily I had an extra in my glovebox which never made it to an off road shop for a polyurethane replacement. Click the link for photos and info about replacing and pressing it on the cheap.

Also on that page is a half shaft non replacement I did for a WRX... You will notice in the last picture, he managed to get the wrong part.
Re: Replaced Control Arm Bushing
in had to do the control arm bushing on mine at about 50000 miles. the whole control arm was like $100.00 but total $198.00 with labor included.
Re: Replaced Control Arm Bushing
how do i know if mine are bad?

The half shaft was for a Subaru WRX... I do installs a few times a month, exhaust, springs, clutches, etc...
The wheel was acting like a bad wheel bearing. Jack it up, wiggle side to side, if there is movement it's usually the tie rod, so look, if it's solid, then the wheel bearing. Move top to bottom, if it moves it's most likely the wheel bearing.
When I took the wheel off and moved it left to right, the front of the control arm was moving.
As for the $$? I think the bushing was around $14 at the dealership. I bought it about a year ago intending on replacing them with polyurethane. .... why would they replace the control arm when it's just the bushing that's bad?

That's usually the first sign the joint is bad. The boot was probably ripped and got dirt and water into the joint causing it to fail.

so inspect the boots, and see if they are intact? should i worry about fixing this or?
Re: Replaced Control Arm Bushing
When the boot has a little rip and there has been some grease thrown out, it's repairable. But when the joint has been unprotected long enough to get dirt and water into it causing it to click, it's time to replace the shaft.
