There is an excellent thread here on an AC rebuild: http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f108/...roblems-19590/

Replace the condenser, pull a vacuum, and refill. Easy as pie. Next time use a real horn bracket

I'm not sure about the gauge set (I own one), but I rent a vacuum pump from the local Autozone. Make sure to get new vacuum pump oil though as it absorbs water and helps pull a deeper vacuum.

A quick youtube on A/C repair and you'll know enough to get it done.

I actually know MORE than the average person when it comes to vehicle repair, since I want to make it my career, And I'm wanting to get my EPA Section 609 MVAC certification.

If you have access to a proper tools it is always better to do so. However, I have had a lot of luck not pulling a vacuum and refilling at home with those cheap top off cans with oil in them. one with a gauge and feeling if the air is cool enough is what I typically do when working at home. I don't ever vent systems, but i have put in a lot of compressors, installed systems and even just topped of systems without vacuum and/or proper gauges. The systems have all stay functional for years without issue.

(my wallet STILL winces in pain from that!) luckily, I can have a condenser from one of the local parts houses for $149, vs $200 at the Stealer (and being badgered into having THEM install it and recharge the system at $100 an hour) my only problem would be vacuuming and recharging the system.
I'm probably going to get shot for this but...

We have just had Jiffy Lube vacuum and recharge the system on 2 of our cars (Aveo and Yaris). Cost me $100 last time I had it done. No issues at all.

If you're like anything like me. Any repair is an other opportunity to buy tools (yes TOOLS) you can get a half decent vacuum pump for about 80-90 bucks. FJC FJ6905 1. 5 Cfm Vacuum Pump - Walmart.com

No kidding, Walmart. Then get a set gauges. Always buy a set that has a vacuum scale on it. The vacuum actually gets rid of the moisture.

I am so sorry. I did a search and bam! It was there under sponsored posts. It's nice to see them spend money on focused advertising instead of employees

well, I stopped by my Local Chevy Dealer this afternoon to see how much the damage would have been had I been completely car stupid; and the quote I got was an EYE WATERING $809.69! they wanted $564.70 FOR LABOR ALONE; and they quoted 5 Hours, which puts their Labor Rate RIGHT AT $100 An Hour! then they were going to charge me $20 for a Bottle of Dex-Cool, and $25 for the Refrigerant! and of course, the Condenser was $200, so The STEALER is DEFINITELY OUT.
