Hell, I did the math last night, and if I bought the gauges and vacuum pump from harbor freight; I'd be able to do the job myself for a mere $328.46 and that INCLUDES the condenser but doesn't include replacement refrigerant (I have replacement o-rings from replacing the condenser from my old car)
Buy a good AC repair book. I had the haynes from years ago when I took care of my truck. The theory behind AC is weird and well worth understanding is you wanna go pro. Seriously how can a hot liquid make my air cool? Once you understand that then it starts making sense.
Since you are replacing the condenser, you have a low point in the system. Force air into and push out the old oil and measure the right amount into the system. You may have to replace the dryer.

Excellent! Take picture of the dissemble and repair. You are on your way! Do buy gauges that show negative. It will show how good of vacuum you have on it. I bought a cheap gauge and I could never tell if I had my vacuum on long enough. Now I have a good set.
