Searching for Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2011 Chevrolet Aveo LT with P0016 Code

Hi all, we've had a pesky P0016 (Crank-Cam Position Correlation Error) code come up since we replaced some components on a 2011 Aveo LT. We've done the following:

      1. Replaced water pump (vehicle was over heating at the time)
      2. Replaced timing belt, idle pulley, and tensioner
        • Since our timing was off initially, we re-positioned the timing belt and verified that all timing marks were correct (in fact, we've triple checked the timing!)

      3. Replaced intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors

At this point, we're trying to locate the darned crankshaft position sensor, but am having absolutely no luck. We searched the forums and have found several images showing the sensor position for other years, and we were under the false hope that they might work. It's been a no go.

Does anyone know the location of the sensor? We'd really appreciate your insight. Thanks in advance.

      Code:

      End of report.

OK, I just found a manual online, and it looks like the Crankshaft Position Sensor might be below the starter. I'll try with that and let you know if this is it.

Sensor was located behind the starter, and I had to remove the starter to even disconnect the harness. After that, it was blindly trying to get the allen wrench into the screw to remove it. Putting it back in was even worse, but it finally helped when I used an endoscopic camera to check the alignment and exactly where the sensor needed to be placed. At this point, I still have to install the starter and then check it out. I hope this clears that code.

Odds are it will need a CKP relearn if messing with the sensor does not address the code. Could be a flakey sensor as well but there are no tests for the sensors themselves.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked at the relearn procedure, but I'm guessing it's going to require a special scan tool. Is that correct, and if so, is that something I just need to take to a dealer?

Until we figure out an alternative, for now yes - mostly a dealer task.

Well, I'll head there tomorrow. I called today and the service manager didn't even know what the CKP relearn was, and I was reading directly from the OEM manual.

06T200, I really appreciate your help!
