question for you guys
I have a 2005 aveo 1.6 L , Auto ect...
not problems so far has all uptodate fluids, spark plugs, air filter ect...and a really clean engine...
the other day i noticed that there is a slight squeak...it comes and then it goes and in the serpentine belt area its a bit louder in noise now too...
its not as bad as some belts that you Really hear but it seems as if something is loosing its grease slowly.....
I looked at the serpentine belt it does not look cracked, seems tight but that is the extent of my knowledge ....
Any ideas ? The car has 51000km (31000miles)
Its out of the Bumper to bumper warrenty but still has the power train ect......However Gm likes to charge a good 80 diagnosis fee only to probally tell me that its nothing yet....
:S
I just had the same problem with my '07 with 40,000km. It only does it at idle for me when it was warm. I took it to the dealer and they said the belt was cracked so they replaced it under warranty but the noise is still there. I'm almost positive that it's the idler pulley at the front, I can grab it and move it side to side about 1/2". I told the dealer that when I took it in and they said it was within "spec", which really means tough ****, were not replacing it.
I had them say that about a problem i had on a cavalier when the steering shaft was clunking but it was still working....
I had to ask them do i wait for it to break, loose control ect and then try to bring whats left of the car back in for service ... they ended up fixing it after that (under warrenty)
Anyways the car is still out but Ill be seeing if the tension has any play ....
Was your belt cracked or something ?
Ya, it was heavily cracked for it's age. It's just the poor quality of the rubber...same as the timing belt. And it's the idler that was loose, not the tensioner. If you look at the pulleys, it's the one closest to the front of the car just bolted to the timing cover.
The pulley in the first pic is the one i'm talking about. Guaranteed you can grab it and move it even with the belt on. The belt chirps constantly and when it does, you can see the pulley move side to side. I guess i'll just have to wait for the bearing to let go or seize before the dealer will fix it.
