I was asking about the recent fulid change because you may have spilled something onto the belt and not known it. That will make the belt slip. Take off the belt and see if all the pullies spin freely. It could be that the bearings in the pully are going out.

      Re: serpentine belt

to take the belt off do i have to unbolt something to take off the tension ?

or can i simply slip it off to loosen the tension enought to test the pullies?

      thx

u go thru the wheel well. i know that much. never done it on this car but i know u have to go thru the wheel well and then u put some pressure on the tensioner pulley an it should move one way or the other and loosen up the belt for u to just pull off with the one hand. same way to put it back on.
You can not commit crimes in a Aveo. Its just not fast enough.

      Re: serpentine belt

To get mine off, I went from under the hood. Used a serpentine belt wrench but a 13mm (or 14mm, can't quite remember) wrench will work fine with enough strength. It turns clockwise to remove tension.

From what I remember, it is the brass bolt. And it is quite a tight spot there, luckily I got my hands in there. Small hands come in handy when your a mechanic.

a tennis racket is thin enough to fit past the rail. what did you dealer quote you for the belt change?

i was told it would be under $500, for me that is cheap enough not to have to do myself as long as i am not hurting for money.

A serpentine belt is not the same thing as a timing belt.

I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.
