I just bought my aveo from a used lot it has 120000 km and I was wondering how to tell if the timing belt has been changed.Or possibly a get a GMVIS .

you could try running the vin at the dealer, but i think they only see warranty and recall work (canada might be different).
some manufacturers do have complete dealer service bios available.
check the brand of the belt if its not oem, but i would change it to be safe.

How is the OEM belt marked?
the dealers I've contacted havent been willing to share the service history of the car.
i can not say how the oem is marked. but if you find your brand on your belt you might be able to rule out if it was ever offered oem.
your best plan is to replace it so you know it was done.
Thanks ,@ 20000 km past the time for the belt change I want to believe the previous owner did it but it's cheaper to be safe than sorry.
i had no problem getting records from dealers just go in with vin and ask. the dealers know what was done under warranty no matter what dealership work was done at,but only know what maintenance work was done at there own dealership so finding timing belt and oil changes would be more difficult.my expierence has been chev ventura no problem with record finding also dodge ram no problems getting records all with VIN #
