Should the whole strut assembly move while the car is jacked up?

For the past 2,000 miles I have had a lot of vibration and creeking notice. I have checked tire rod ends, ball joints and lower conrol arms. When I have the car jacked up and move the tire the whole strut assembly moves back and forth when I push and pull toward the enginebay. Is this normal or is ssomething needed to be fixed? Thank you.

Do you mean it movesor twists? Its suposed to twist because its a floating suspension. for the creeking sound for me it was the top bushings between the strut assy and the strut tower. You must disassemble to remedy this issue but thats what the issue was for me hope this helps. The busshing are 70 for the kit on ebay.

      good luck

Mine does what you're describing. The upper strut mounts need replacing.

Thats what fixed it for me but unless your comfortable taking your front strut out and take the struts apart. Id be sure id looked at everything. There is a thread on here about how to do it and you need a couple of special tools spring compressors and deep sockets also a pack of beer of your choosing and cigarettes because those swaybar endlinks dont come out without a fight.

so, does it mean that the vibration is because the upper strut mounting has failed? this is the first time I hear something like this.

Most likely. The Aveo used a really odd setup, and the strut mount clunk is a common failure.

When the strut mount fails you get a “clunking” noise when you go over bumps in the road.

thank you, I appreciate your answer. I have a problem when one of the Canadian Tires say that the floating suspension cause the shaking/vibration in steering wheel. That is why I am interested in the topic.
