We readers won't know what you're doing when you "grab a fuel compression tester" for example since there is no such tool as a "fuel compression tester". Most of what you're checking has no relation to any knocking sound, but it's useful for you to learn how to take things apart and put them back together again. If you can (and the car is driveable) take it to an experienced mechanic and ask. You'll get an experienced answer right away without having to disassemble everything.
