driving home tonight, my car all of a sudden decided to stop. the more i pressed the gas pedal the less power it had, and the faster it dropped in rpm... coasted to a stop in the fast lane of a 4 lane highway... Waiting on the GM roadside tow truck now ( i called and got a ride home from a friend)..
2009 with 6421 miles...

Sounds like a sensor blew. I had the MAP sensor give out, and it resulted in some really unusual behavior. If I pressed the gas lightly, the car stalled. If I floored it, it would sputter and then rev up. Made for a crappy drive home, and a drained battery to boot.

You just had bad luck, should be a defective sensor. And you left ur car on the highway? Did it take long for the truck to come? Keep us updated.
man what are they doing to this newer aveos...seems like they have more random problems then the first 04's like mine
sam, i agree, the 04 are the best with out all that drive by wire throtle bodys and other electonic bits that were added over the years, and i also hate how the clutch feels in the 09.Quote:

Aveo is the only GM the is built by Daewoo? so its probably not interchangeable with cobalts or anything.
I would think it would be the same, but in another thread on here, it was discussed that they adding a gallon of fuel to the tank, so the dimensions of the 09 might require a different pump, and it is typically part of the fuel gauge sending unit.
you know i've heard other forum members mention minor problems with the newer aveo's. the only problem i ever had was when i first got my 04 there was a vacuum line that was connected and the hose was too short. it broke and my car wouldnt hold idle. they replaced the hose and i was on my way in 15 minutes. car has been great ever since. i hope your problem works out to be very minor and is resolved quickly.
The dealer might have been joking. There should always be a suitable fuel pump. I heard aveo's fuel pump is interchangeable with that of Chevy Niva. But you don't have this model over there.Quote:

They're probably telling you the truth. At our dealership, it sometimes takes a week or more for parts to come in. We actually have to wait for them to be produced before we can get them
If not for the qualification at the dealer you could try finding a suitable model. There are bound to be some. There should be sites to tell you suitable models.

Dude what? His car died on the road with under 10k miles and was towed to the dealership.
Why would he dick around putting a fuel pump in himself multiple times?, when its all under warranty, and he can have a rental, and no messy gas smell?

When I bought my cruise control there was only 1 in the country, also on the west coast.
The good news is, it might mean they dont need a huge inventory of parts here, because they dont get many that go bad.
The bad news,....maybe theres been a rash of failures, and there using up the supply as fast as they can get them here?
I think its all just the fact that all the parts got to be shipped here, unlike a car with the Plant and all the parts somewhere in Ohio like the Cobalt (Lordstown, Ohio)
Yes, I considered that by saing "If not for the qualification at the dealer". If his car hadn't been towed to the dealer and he wasn't given a rental he could at least change the part easily. I meant "if". But luckily it's not the case.Quote:

I think the lesson here is... don't get a first-year model that has just been redesigned. Wait a year or two so GM hopefully works the problems out on the future carry-over models. My friend had a '93 Ford Ranger once, and that year was the first year of a complete engine, transmission and body redesign. It had every problem a car could have! He eventually sold it and got a later model year, and it rarely had an issue.
That's why I got an '08 Aveo... its mostly the same design since '04, but its had 4 years of tweaks. I'm not a dealer or a mechanic, so I might not even know what the heck I'm talking about, so correct me if I'm wrong. 8)
the 09 is sort of the same, most of the changes are in appearance, but the doors etc are the same. And the different engine is a carry over part, from another daewoo used for a few years also. The interior is a carry over from the sedan.. Dont know much about every little part though. But i had a first year focus, made it 1400 miles before the clutch became "optional" and the fuel pump, and alternator died within the first 5000..
The Dealer called, my fuel pump will be here on friday. so it might be done friday afternoon, if it comes early enough. Guess i won't be working on the car during my break..
i bought an 04 aveo in 04 and shes been great!!
Dealers called and my car is done!!
and better yet, they replaced all my tires under warranty! (the alignment has been a little off ever since the lowering springs went on) but i have new tires now!
now i just have to ask them about the radio code to install my CD headunit...
They replaced your tires under warranty after you installed lowering springs? Wow, what a dealership. They must be hurtin' for customer satisfaction.
their dealership actually has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings for the longest time period for Chevy dealers in pittsburgh... they also just celebrated their 75th anniversary as a dealer..
