      Strange POP, internal backfire?

      Hey guys...

So I have an intake on my car, just a curved 3" pipe with a K&N cone.

Even since I did that, randomly, maybe 2-4 times every 6 months, I get a POP.

This is what happens... because my intake sounds soooo good, I tent to rev it a lot. (I have the 5 speed) So when I go into corners, or am sitting at a stop light, I'll give it a quick TAP TAP to maybe 2500RPM or 3k.

Now, it happens so randomly I don't expect it so I can't really pay complete attention.

But it SEEMS it will just POP, it sounds like a backfire inside a cylinder?
Then for a while, maybe a mile, it will not seem to have full power @ low RPM. I'll tap tap it a few times, and POP! It makes me cringe. But then it is back to normal?!

I can't take it to the dealer for two reasons...
      1) I can't MAKE it do it, I can not recreate it.
      2) I have an intake kit, and they'll say my warranty is void and send me on my way o_O

      Please help!

Also, anyone notice when accelerating a slight tugging almost like loss of power / gain power back, over and over about 5-6 times until about 4kRPM? Once I hit the valve timing thing, it takes off like a rocket.

maybe a misfire? pull your plugs, and check and see if they're toast. Check the wires, make sure they're not toast. reconnect everything back up all snug.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far the wall moves after you hit it.

Exodus, thanks but it did it with the stock plugs, and I put in new plugs and tested the wires, everythings fine.

I suggest you stop the unneccesary revving. I have a Harley and did the same thing you are doing. My mechanic told me I needed to stop or I could cause serious damage.

So you have to outweigh cool sounds vs. possible engine damage.

      just my 2 cents

I just don't get it, there has to be something causing it.
It is a 5 speed, it should be able to rev forever without issue.
Plus I exagerated a bit, it is probably no more than 1800RPM.
It should EASILY be able to do that 24/7 w/o issue.

Thanks for the non- BS reply like BirdBrain...

It works fine 99% of the time, just every few months I get a POP...
      Just scares me.

I'll get that "puff or pop" through the air cleaner too, just nature of the beast

There's a little trick we do when going through an underpass on the bikes when we have a new rider with us...turn off the ignition, roll the throttle on full, then click the ignition on and BANG!!! Unfortunately, what you are doing is causing a large build-up of fuel in the cylider and it detonates when turning the ignition back on...VERY VERY VERY BAD for the motor, and your balls if the jugs ever let loose or the top end blows off the motor.

That's something I thought it might me. I hope that is it.
      It isn't dangerous right?

      Ex- whats's a CEL? (sorry...)

Blade- I MAY have over-reacted, it MAY have been sarcasm.
I don't think that smiley indicated sarcasm, even so it was uncalled for.

Thanks for the quick replies, I hope it's just the air intake deal.
