Hi and thanks for the reply. I purchased the car in this condition. It was previously a rental unit with no known modifications. I hadn't thought of a fuse. I'll post back if that's what it ultimately is!
Re: Tachometer doesn't work
you bought a rental car with a dead tach?
Out of honest curiosity, what made you buy a rental car. I know that personally, when I get a rental car, I always call it a "what would happen if" car. I think, " What would happen if......" then I do it. Such "what would happens" would always be something I would NEVER do in a car I owned and usually ended in very loud mechanical noises followed by lots of laughter.

good times
Re: Tachometer doesn't work
you know, 75% of uses cars sold within 2 years of being purchased new are rental cars.. whether you know it or not.
another 10% are repos...
Re: Tachometer doesn't work
So you are saying that 85% of used cars are either repo or rentals? I would like to see some evidence of that please. Considering that there is also leasing to keep in mind I highly doubt that statistic is correct.
Re: Tachometer doesn't work
if it is within the first 2 years of being new..
it is in the auto auction data base, they keep track of who sells what and how many, as customer/seller tally.

Now that makes sense. We are not talking cars sold by dealers but rather auto auctions.

Yep, I talked him down $100 because of it. Out the door for under $6k for a 2006 seemed a good risk. It's a California car (LA) with 40k miles, otherwise, it's in perfect cosmetic and mechanical condition, and the colour I wanted. No evidence of flood, undercarriage damage (forklift, curbing, etc.) and a clean CarFax report. I will be changing the timing belt, water pump, idler pulley before 50k miles. Also, I bought a new thermostat housing made of metal. Don't need those problems.
