My rev-counter is dead, and my dealer service advisor thought it was a bad instrument cluster. The quote to see about this was too dear, so I didn't actually have a tech look at it and got a cluster from eBay. Well, it didn't solve my problem. Any thoughts on this? The car runs great, otherwise. Thanks in advance!
check the fuse? (is there one) also did you do anything to the car shortly before? radio? amp, etc?
Hi and thanks for the reply. I purchased the car in this condition. It was previously a rental unit with no known modifications. I hadn't thought of a fuse. I'll post back if that's what it ultimately is!Quote:

Out of honest curiosity, what made you buy a rental car. I know that personally, when I get a rental car, I always call it a "what would happen if" car. I think, " What would happen if......" then I do it. Such "what would happens" would always be something I would NEVER do in a car I owned and usually ended in very loud mechanical noises followed by lots of laughter.

So you are saying that 85% of used cars are either repo or rentals? I would like to see some evidence of that please. Considering that there is also leasing to keep in mind I highly doubt that statistic is correct.
if it is within the first 2 years of being new..
it is in the auto auction data base, they keep track of who sells what and how many, as customer/seller tally.

I have the same problem with my Aveo 2006. Does someone know where is the location of tacho relay or fuse?
Hi Mark, I tried to find a fuse, but there's none specifically marked as such. I checked all the fuses and relays, but when the eBay cluster didn't solve it, I figure it's the ECU. My car was wrecked before I could pursue this further.Quote:

Good point, Wolfman. I did try both clusters (my original and the eBay) in a friend's '04 Aveo and the tach worked. In both cars, the miles indicated changed to what was originally on the cluster (now 6925 miles), so if one was to install it, and was worried about 'turning the clock backward,' so to speak, he'd have to go to the dealer and have it flashed to the actual mileage.Quote:
