As long as you wait for the engine to warm up and pump warm coolant around the TB, you shouldn't have a problem.

I recently had a surging around 2500-3500 RPMs and finally threw a P0172 code, which the dealer said was an O2 sensor and replaced it. Next day same code. This time he said it was a clogged fuel injector and said they cleaned them and the fuel rail and presto, no code. So you may be onto something with cleaning.
