      Timing belt kit manufacturer

      Hi!

New owner of used Aveo/Pontiac Wave Gen 1 from Canada!

Just bought this guy, that's pretty f up it has no A/C but okay, still not California, eh?

The car has 90k km, so I think it's time to change timing belt. I was thinking about buying a kit from amazon, but confused since it suggests many different manufacturers of timing belt replacement kits.

What do you think, what to choose?

      Thanks!

Personally, i would suggest RockAuto over Amazon, and would chose AC Delco, Gates, or Continental, over the lesser brands. For 95% of my auto part needs, RockAuto is always cheaper than Amazon. If you are Gen1, then maybe include a water pump with your timing belt kit.

      Thanks my friend!

Why do you think water pump should be replaced as well?

Now the easiest part - to figure out what tools will I need and buy it not for all the world's money, haha!

The water pump pulley is part of the timing belt routing on the 2004-2008 Gen 1 Aveos. To remove the old timing belt, and to install the new timing belt, you must rotate the water pump body, which is attached to the engline block with a rubber seal. When you rotate the water pump, you disturb the water pump seal. So there is a high likelihood the old water pump seal will leak if you install a new timing belt. So it is always a good idea to install a new water pump and seal when you replace the timing belt.

If buying tools, consider buying a special water pump adjusting tool. It's a simple u-shaped piece of metal that attaches to a racket wrench or breaker bar. You should be able to find the Aveo water pump tool on Amazon. They aren't expensive.
