      Timing Belt Tensioner Question

How's it going guys? Forgive me if this has been asked before. I am at 100K miles on my 2005. I am about to replace my timing belt and timing belt tensioner. I could really use some expert advice. I know that the factory timing belt tensioners and pulleys are made out of plastic, and do not stand up to heat real well. I've read somewhere that it is recommended to replace our plastic timing belt tensioner with an aluminum or metal one. Could somebody please tell me where exactly I can find these mystical aluminum tensioners and what brand? And if you guys have any additional advice pertaining to this job. Please don't hesitate. Thanks in advance!

I discovered this write up a while back and filed it away in my bookmarks for when the Time comes to replace Chewy's TB. I drive less than 3 miles to work and back each day and don't drive very far otherwise. I'm at least couple years away from needing it replaced.

      Here's the link: Timing belt

If you have any further questions, please ask and a member who has actually performed this "Surgery" will be happy to answer them.

Best of luck, and keep us updated.

Thanks for the link Andrew. I appreciate it! Would you happen to know where I could purchase the aluminum timing belt tensioner and pulley. The factory ones are plastic and break easily. I know the aluminum tensioners exist. I just don't know who makes it or where I can purchase it from. Thanks!

You can search ebay for starters, not sure where else. I was hoping someone else would chime-in. I buy any parts that I need at our Local NAPA or our Mullis Petroleum.

I'm sorry I can't really be of more help.

You have been plenty help Andrew. The link you sent me will save me lots of time. If anybody on here has any idea where I can buy the aluminum timing belt tensioner and pulley as opposed to the weak plastic one that the factory recommends, please let me know. Thanks guys!

I bought my timing belt and tension from Car Quest. They make a good kit and metal parts.
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

Was the idler pulley and the tensioner pulley made out of metal? Most of the kits I've seen come with a plastic idler and tensioner pulley. Thanks for the info!

Awesome! Hope the install goes well. As Pontenza said, make sure you change the water pump too.

      Best of luck!
