      Tranny or clutch

I have a 2010 aveo5 manual. For a while now when i sit in neutral i hear a lot of chattering, and since last night my car will now want to engage in a gear, i dont know what one because my shifter is in neutral.

I have a huge feeling my used tranny i put in was on its way out.

When i do push in the clutch the rattling stops , so im guessing its because the power isnt being transferred to the transmission.

Could be a bad throwout bearing and/or slave cylinder. Could be the slave cylinder is not fully disengaging and the throw-out bearing is riding hard against the pressure plate. I would flush the clutch fluid through the bleeder on the slave and see if the problem persists.

Im not too familiar with the later generation. There's too many variables including electrical connections, pcm issues, etc. Always stay the same year if you can unless you know 100% for sure.

If it were me , I would source all the clutch parts , from some place that will let you return them if you get it apart and it is not the clutch . Maybe locate another transmission , if it is needed .

With the engine off , can you shift the transmission into 1st gear ? Then , start the engine ( CAREFULLY ! ) . If it trys to take off , with the clutch depressed , then I would say it is some sort of clutch problem .

      God bless
      Wyr
