Trouble finding Type 4 Auto Trans fluid

Went to my local Autozone and couldn't find Type 4 trans fluid for GM. Is Dexan 3 the same?

If you have a pepboys or advance auto by your area they offer this one by castrol; http://www.pepboys.com/product/detai...id/?quantity=1

O'reilly auto has this one: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2547&ppt=C0207

If any other autostore offers Mobil 3309 that is another Type IV fluid.

the best place to get transmisssion fluid is the toyota dealer - ask for type T-IV it is about $5 a quart if you are just doing a drain and refil it will take about 3 quarts. If you drop the pan and replace the filter it will take between 4 and 5 depending on how much fluid you got out

Lucas Oil Multi-Vehicle ATF can also be used.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

The difference is that Dexron III is not synthetic and Dex IV is partially synthetic - and Dex IV costs more. Either one will work, because the transaxle was originally designed to use Dexron III. Theoretically the synthetic version should last longer. The important thing is that having clean fluid in your tranny is better protection against transmission failure than leaving dirty, worn fluid unchanged.

If you want the most economical replacement for Dex IV it is the Valvoline version of Dex IV, when bought by the gallon (click here)
