Two middle vents not blowing most of the time

Hi guys, as the title says my two middle vents in my 04 aveo are acting up. The vents on the sides work flawlessly and sometimes the middle ones do too, typically when I first start the fans. It does not matter whether hot or cold, both climates are equally as inconsistent concerning those two vents. I have the blower set to just blow right at me, and other settings don't seem to change the fact that it doesn't work. Occasionally I turn it on and off and upon turning it on again, the two vents start working again, but quickly just stop. I check the filter, cleaned that out and that didn't help! Any answers are thoroughly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I wonder if it's possible the mode door that directs air through the various passages in the system is wonky.

We had one member where the door broke:

Blower fan for heat, defrost, is working but no air comes through vents (SOLVED!).

You can pull the panel off above the radio. The vents are just straight pipes to there. You should be able to see any obstruction there.

I wondered about that too, except it's an intermittent problem.

Unless there's something lightweight in the passages that is getting flipped up by fan air pressure that's causing the blockage, and turning the fan off lets it drop/fall down again.

So here is an update: found out that putting the fans on four makes a latch closing sound, forcing the middle vents not to work, so long as it is not on four it works, but after it hits four, it also makes the other modes not work. This leads me to believe the higher pressure is causing an issue.

Sounds like the flap that opens/closes the vents duct is loose/disconnected.

Do your other ducts work fine when you move the selector (between floor/blend/vent/defrost)? What about when you move it when the fan is on high?

Yes, that all work fine in all scenarios except those two. Further testing revealed that when switching the fan modes, not just speed, it causes the middle two to not work again. Strange!

Did you try pulling the vent panel off above the radio to have a look inside?

That is the next course of action! I didn't have time when I was working on it, will be doing it either later tonight or tomorrow morning. Thanks for the suggestions!
