Vacuum Leak?

2006 Aveo manual transmission 75,000 miles

I have been fighting a vacuum leak for a while. Check engine light is on steady. It flashes from time to time. When accelerating I have to be light on the gas pedal. If I give it too much gas, it stutters and misfires. If I am light on the gas it seems to not act up as much. It does this under load, what I mean is that if it is idleing, and I depress the gas pedal, revving the engine, it doesn't happen. If I am getting onto the interstate, and I need to accelerate, I can not "floor it" as it will buck violently. Getting on the interstate has to be a gradual, slowly accelerating entrance.

Pulled the code. I forget what the code number was, but it said random misfire and also said vacuum leak.

I have tried the brake cleaner spray vacuum leak test with no results..... I have 75,000 miles and have never replace the plug or wires....

any thoughts?

Tony_B, mind if I ask what the B stands for?

I don't know any other tricks for finding vacuum leaks, short of pulling and plugging lines, not something I would want to fight with.

I found, while searching the net this:

It kinda says that vacuum leaks affect a car at idle more than at partial or full throttle. I guess I should be headed toward a fuel injector problem.

Any thoughts?

One thought: does it do it in all weather?

If it's more in damp conditions it would point more to being an ignition wire problem. That might trigger the random misfire code. I had an Accord that behaved exactly as you describe in damp cold weather. You could test that theory by spraying (soaking) the ignition parts & wires with WD-40 after you experience the symptoms, then drive it again. New wires fixed me right up.

But if the computer says you have a vacuum problem (via the code), then you probably do.

Replaced plugs and wires.....

I have a 2008 aveo LS manual trans and its doing the exact same thing. You ever figure this out? I'm leaning towards a restricted exhaust at this point.
