      Valve Cover Gasket Help

Ok so I went to the local AutoZone and told them my symptoms.

2007 Chevy Aveo leaking oil, smells like burned oil when heat is on, and spark plug wells are filled with oil. They told me that is sounded like a valve cover gasket. After a little bit of research, it appears this is a well known issue on the Aveos.

So I buy the replacement gasket.

I watch a couple videos on YouTube, and have a friend print off the AllData Instructions. I am now the resident expert . Well, the distructions, errrr, instructions say to torque at 10Nm (89 lb in).

It also states "Apply a small amount of gasket sealant to the corners of the front camshaft caps and the top of the rear valve cover to cylinder head seal."

      I have 2 questions.

      1. Where do I need to put on the sealant? I need a nice picture with arrows or something, I am not very good at identifying parts, and theres no haynes manual for it.
      2. What sequence do I torque the bolts in? It appears to be important but I cant find it for my car at all. Thanks.

sealant goes on the two black rubber peices and on the other side as well. And the torque goes from the center out.

Ummm, not trying to make fun, but the whole thing is black rubber in the picture. Mine is actually blue. Is there the adhesive points?

You've probably already done the work, but for future reference, the sealant goes at both ends where the gasket follows the cam semicircles.

With as many problems as there are with the gasket failing, I'd probably use sealing almost everywhere on that thing, especially around the spark plug holes.

the sealant goes on the 4 corners of the top of U bends on the head, about where the coil pack goes.
      make sense?

When I replaced mine you can see where the factory applied the sealant originally at the 4 corners.

Thumbs up to this because shoot I pulled that cover and there was oil everywhere in the those center two spark plug wells. Put a helping of Black High Temp RTV on those concerned areas. The end caps like rabbit said and then do as Daox said as well. Ensure you put everything back to the way it was when you get the cover buttoned down and double check all wiring connections.
