      warranty issues with exhaust

      This weekend I plan on getting 3in exhaust pipe from cat back with a fart can stickin out the rear of my 09 AVEO5... that involves cutting out a resonater (silencer type thingy) and the stock muffler of course.

      My question: Will this void my warranty? what are the restrictions and limitations on aftermarket exhaust? I really REALLY do not wanna void my warranty but you know i still wanna have fun.

      My story:

      The magnasum-moss act is great, but try to enforce it. It is you against the dealer. I installed an aftermarket alarm system in my vehicle when new. Less than a year old, the CEL came on. First trip to the dealer yielded a new O2 sensor. Light came back on in 50 miles. Second trip to dealer resulted in fuel rail cleaning. Light came back on in 50 miles or so. Third trip to dealer, two days there, and I get a call. They claim they cannot properly troubleshoot the problem with the aftermarket alarm, and I must remove it. I ask how an alarm system can throw the codes I was getting. They said we don't know, but we cannot work on it until you remove the alarm. I asked if I remove it and it is not the problem, who pays for the de-install / re-install. They said it was on me, even if it was not the cause. We went back and forth. I even told them of the magnasum-moss act. Called Chevrolet corporate customer service. They backed up the dealer. Reported MM act violation to FCC. End result, I am waiting for that light bulb to burn out. The only good thing about New Jersey is new cars have 4 years until inspection, so I will kill the car in 4 years. I know my alarm is not the problem and I refuse to remove it. Unfortunatley, this is one of my big problems with Chevy, poor customer service, and the reason I will probably never buy another GM product again (if they are even in business), and probably the reason they are in so much trouble now. They cannot definitively tell me the problem, they are "poking and hoping". So keep this in mind with your modifications, if it cannot be easily removed for warranty work, it might cause an issue.

      i hate to be the one to bring this back up. but 3" pipe is too big for the 1.6 engine unless you have a huge turbo there..

      I think 2 1/2 is the most you can go.

      2.25" is as big as i would recommend unboosted. and that is also with a muffler and a resonator..

      if you go true straight pipe stick with 2".

      Just changing out the muffler really freed up restriction, getting rid of the resonator would help too.

      so probably stick with stock pipe but weld a straight pipe in place of the resinater and trade the stock muffler for my fart can? do you think it'll still be pretty loud?
