I own a 05 Aveo. Recently, when the engine gets up to around 4K RMP it won't shift. Anyone else experience this, what was the cause?
Any ideas!?
Thanks!

not much you can do yourself aside from pulling the trans and inspecting the internals. First check the fluid level, then check for leaks around the trans.
try to not trust the shift indicator. and feel each gear as you pull back..
only push the button enough to let it slide out of park, it will drop ito reverse and lock. do that same with neutral and then drive.
this probably isn't the problem. but its pretty simple to do and you "might" be shifting into what ever locked gear is below drive accidentally and the indicator isn't aligned properly, the lower gear wont shift.
another thing you could try, dont know if this will work on an aveo either though, is to dicconnect the battery for an hour or two. this may reset the transmission computer.. but it probably wont work for an aveo either.
do you have a check engine light or anything?
these things are both free to do so i would try them. otherwise check the fluid, and the shift linkage on top of the tranny. anything else you will need to take it somewhere.
I didn't mention, this is an automatic transmission.
The check engine light is on, and the HOLD button comes on, but once you stop. Place the car in park and restart. The HOLD button goes away.
Thanks!
Same problem I have.Quote:

yes
But not if it's blinking hold. Basically when it is blinking and won't shift above 4k, it's because it is in "limp home" modeQuote:

here we go, the 2 wires of the iat were touching because i had 1 of those performance "chips" hooked up. i got tired of it so i took it off and had to resolder the 2 wires back on the iat (good thing i saved the plug) i guess after driving around in the bakersfield heat, the solder points melted just enough for the 2 ends to touch and put the car in "limp mode" so after the diagnostic test and reset, all that was needed was some rubber tape and embarrasment
Those "chips" are a joke, all they are is a resistor that will eventually burn out your cat.
i know, i had to replace my cat a few months ago :P
Easy cure to this shifting problem though, pour 2 bottle of NOS energy drink in your gas tank, but make sure your almost out of gas first. Cures all ailments.
omfg, i forgot all about that story
Does that actually wrk
NO!
can anyone that has been on here find that thread i made about the guy who did this to his bike? it was the one on the bike fourm where they troubleshooted about 300 posts until someone brought this up :PQuote:

dont do it, the sugar in the energy drink will glaze in your pistons, then you have to fix al kinds or sh*t, trust me it happened to my honda 400 quad, end up paying 2300 for a complete rebuild of the block itself, so yah listen to hunterooooooooQuote:
