Orion Assembly Builds First Chevrolet Sonic
In another milestone for Orion Assembly, the first pre-production Chevrolet Sonic sedan was built off the end of the production line on Friday, January 14, 2011. The plant celebrated this significant accomplishment as it ramps up toward small car production.
As the only domestic automaker to build small cars in the United States, this is the beginning of a renewed small car era for General Motors and the United Auto Workers. Leadership at Orion Assembly and UAW Local 5960 are committed to working together to innovate and implement new ideas to build small cars competitively in the U.S. Through this spirit of partnership, the plant has jointly committed to build the best small cars together, which is reflected in the plant’s mission statement: “Build it like we own it!” This commitment demonstrates the pride each team member has while building these vehicles.
The Chevrolet Sonic is scheduled to begin production in the third quarter of 2011.
