Sonic automatic at a dealer EPA sticker shows 25 / 35

After all the hype, this video makes the new Elantra look pretty good for those that want a slushbox tranny.

I know the 1.4T will be better but this is a pretty disappointing MPG rating for a 2012 subcompact.

GM doesn't want the Sonic sales to eat into the Cruze sales. The Sonic is supposed to be a warm hatch with performance, so it will lack the fuel efficiency of its competitors.

It could very well be. I noticed when looking at the Sonic that everything was the same... body lines, transmission, center dash layout... It looks like a cheap re-design, and is probably not all that different from the Aveo mechanically.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

25/35 isn't too bad. The city is a bit lower compared to most, but the highway is on par with most.

Here is a few other automatic similarly sized cars:

      2012 Fiesta = 27/35
      2012 Fiesta SFE = 28/40
      2012 Accent = 30/40
      2011 Fit = 28/35
      2012 Elantra = 29/40
      2011 MINI Cooper = 28/36
      2011 Yaris = 29/35
      2011 Mazda 2 = 29/35
      2011 Rio = 28/34

Haha all those smoke the tiny 1.4L Fiat 500 @ 27/34.

I own an old Aveo, I really admire the styling on the new Sonic but I the fuel consumption figures are disappointing.

I went and saw a new sonic today, i swear it was parked near a cruze, but it seemed the same size, and taller than a cruze..

size to weight to power affect those numbers.

26/35 for the 5 speed manual. Looks like it is still lacking a proper overdrive.
Sorry GM, the Turbo Sonic was priced too close to the Focus ST. I gots me a Ford.

Too soon to tell what kind of fuel mileage we will get with our 2015 Sonic LS 4dr sedan 1.8l automatic . Pretty much anywhere we buy , it is going to be E10 ethanol 10% .

Just put an aftermarket cruise control on it a few days ago . Hope that will help it , too , on trips .

I did take it on a test drive ( after cruise install ) on the loop ( 60 mph speed limit ) . Got the mpg indicator on the instrument cluster to indicate over 40 mpg . I had filled up & reset the trip odometer & mpg indicator .

The mpg dropped as soon as I entered town .

Truth is , if you do not drive a lot of miles per year , a 5 mpg difference at the top end , does not equate into too many dollars in fuel savings .

My wife and I , rarely go on long trips , but when we do , I am guessing we will spend more $$$ at the fast food retailer than at the gasoline retailer .

About 99% of the miles we will put on the car will be with Wifey behind the wheel . Mixed city / highway driving .

      God bless
      Wyr
