Sonic production begins this week in Michigan

Looks like the pre-production run is wrapping up (the pre-production cars running around Detroit have been teasing people: http://www.aveoforum.com/forum/f113/...me-nuts-12058/)

As of yesterday, the production version of the car is rolling down the assembly lines at the Orion Assembly plant in Michigan. These cars are going to turn up in showrooms as 2012 models "this fall".

Production isn't yet at full tilt because of the logistics of the car's South Korean heritage:

A higher percentage of parts is being imported because the Sonic's architecture was developed in South Korea, he said. That means GM must consider that inventory and supply line when making manufacturing changes at the plant, he said. Over time, more of that parts manufacturing will be shifted to North America, he said.

The Sonic's engines initially are being imported from Mexico and South Korea, Knight said.

I really wouldn't mind owning one of these at all. Sadly it may hit dealerships too late and I'll get the Fiesta instead

It would be worth waiting. Trust me, even from just the reviews I can tell the Sonic is better. And there's a tune out for the 1.4 turbo to put you close to 200ft/lb torque fully stock. That and some mods and you're well over twice the power of the aveo and hell of a lot better handling.

i don know that the handling will be better, unless the added weight stabilized the car in stock from..

my car handles great, its light, and in the near future (next summer maybe?) it will have near 200 hp..

It handles better than any subcompact on the market right now. A GM test engineer said so. I believe him, my rides in it indicate that it will have fluid, balanced handling. It's all about weight distribution and suspension design.

The fit is better, faster, and has no problems or recalls. That is my trolling for the day.
