      Angry 2010 Shifter Locked in Park

      Here's my short story. Please keep up.

      Daughters 2010 Aveo 5 Automatic of course.
      Daughter calls me that she can't get her car into PARK. Tell her to come home and I'll take a look.
      She gets home and truly enough the car won't go into PARK. So I force it. STUPID I know.
      Now the car won't shift out of PARK. I remove the shifter interlock cover and press on the little metal tab and still won't shift out of PARK.
      Call daughter outside and check brake lights. NO brake lights.
      I can hear a very faint clicking sound as I press the button on shifter but have no idea where it is.

      Please help since I/she/we don't have funds to have car towed to a nearby shop or pay for diagnosis.
      Little research done so far but I can't dig too much since I'm a work currently. Only thing I did find is about a relay to be replaced but the video was for a 2005 and after looking at her fuse panel the relay is not there. Must be elsewhere in the slightly newer model.

      Please help. This is her only means of transportation right now and none of us can afford to purchase a replacement much less a repair shop at this time. Her car is sitting on street right now and she's driving my wifes car at this moment. At least no one can steal the Aveo.

      Maybe the solenoid went bad.

      If the shifter wont move with you depressing the interlock, I would suspect a broken shift linkage.

      Well it turns out to be the brake light switch. However after replacing the switch the shifter didn't want to move. I managed to muscle it to shift out of park. Daughter had bad habit of not using the parking brake and told her to USE IT! There's no reason that I can find that on occation it's difficult to shift in and out of park other than my possble damaging something when I muscled it originally into park initially.

      Had same problem on my 2005 and it turned out to be the brake switch but after much research the shift interlock solenoid might be bad but I would check voltage there it needs to be 12V if less than 12V replace Big Black Relay on interior relay box I read that it was the fix the problem for someone else.
