      2011 avep water pump

      Hello,

I recently purchased a 2011 aveo knowing it needed a water pump. I cannot find any information on the internet about the 2011 aveo water pump (ecptech).

I purchased the water pump, tensions and timing belt since the kit was cheaper. I also bought the thermostat and housing. I researched this job thinking this was the variable pump that involved the timing belt which is not the case. i spent all weekend taking the car apart and stopped for 2 reasons. 1. i could not locate the water pump and 2. i could not get the timing chain marks to line up.

Can anyone else me with this? does anyone have a repair manual for a 2011?

      thanks

Most likely water pump is behind lower timing cover and the requires removing the cams., but if you didn't lock the cams no worry.
when you first loop the belt after aligning the marks (counter-clockwise) you set the right cam one tooth high and the left one low so when you tigthen the water pump it all lines up.

I tried to line the cams up for hours turning the harmonic balancer. The cams would only line up sort of. Im not sure if the picture will attach.

Your water pump is NOT in the timing belt loop but is on the serpentine and power steering belts instead. There is a "double pulley" in the serpentine loop, the water pump is driven by that double pulley.

The process to replace the pump involves supporting the engine and disconnecting the motor mount. This is about 85% of the work involved getting access to replace the timing belt as well, so do them both at the same time.

Thank you for the reply. I am having a difficult time getting the gears to balance. Here are a few more pictures. There is no mark on the harmonic balancer although there should be. I cleaned it and everythingName: aveo 2.jpg
