Driver side window regulator motor stopped working - motor only replacement?

if I remove all the bolts holding on the regulator machanism will the window just drop with the mechanism? I can see myself getting in a right mess here. Have to be careful with the glass so it doesn't drop and shatter I assume

duct tape will be your friend here to hold the glass while removing fasteners.
