My sister recently took her 2006 Aveo to get the smog check and the tech failed it because the Check Engine light does not come on. I checked fuses and there is no abnormalities. The light does not come on when I turn the key. I am hoping it is a blown bulb.
-Does any one know how to get access to the engine light bulb?

Before anything, I want to see if the bulb is blown. Then, replace it if it is blow.

Turn your key to the "run" position with the engine off. The Check Engine light will come on and stay on, even when there are no codes. That's how they can tell. Any car with the CEL will do this.
A non-functional CEL is an automatic smog fail in CA.

then how do they know it doesn't come on? if they plug in whatever scanner they have an no codes come up they shouldn't be going through the instrument cluster checking to see if the light works or not. Idk what kind of ****ed up **** you have in california other than your lack of water but damn
are the screws to the instrument cluster accessible from the interior?
