I thought cruise control was available from the factory for '06's I need it for an '04 :(
You can get it, but the member that he is talking about made some cheap but functional home made unit that worked with the electronic throttle and will not work for those of us that have a cable.Quote:

It was on the old board, I'll try to have a look-see if I have a chance.
found it, thank god, i need cruise control, i drive alot on the freeway, especially now that i have my new job as a support technician. thanks guys http://aveoclub.proboards26.com/inde...e=1#1153560399
Shoot I need it for my 05 because my parents live way out, and I often travel to Michigan and the Southwest states (Arizona, Neveda, New Mexico, Texas) Yeah after about 10 hours my foot starts to hurt...Quote:

cruise for 04 and 05
Nice, funny thing is I'm going to Michigan at the end of July. Maybe I can just pick it up while I'm there so I don't have to pay shipping! lol
Did you get a chance to do this yet? I have an 06 and want to do the same. Any problems getting the part?Quote:

anyone know what SVM stands for?
this works for both manual and automatic transmission right?
oh yeah i did it about a month ago and it works great,
just make sure you dont mix up those 2 wires becuase youll get a check engine light and you will run at half power, lol.
no problems getting the part, it came to be around $18 sumthin for the part
SVM stands for Special Value Model, which means, you dont have jack squat in options for the car i.e. power windows, power locks etc. my car sez LS but i think thats bull**** because i have no power windows, locks, mirrors or anything for that matter, the dealer probably badged it that way so they can "try" to sell it for more, which they couldnt sucker me into
and yes it works for both manual and automatic transmissions.
Well I defiantly have the SVM edition then, and mine also says Aveo 5 LS on the sticker
Now if the dealer would just respond to my email. Or perhaps I’ll just go there with the part number.
Did you mount it temporarily? Or did you get the other parts to mount it properly in the steering wheel? And if in the wheel do you happen to have the part numbers for that? How about some pictures if you did a custom mounting job, I’m thinking some sort of Velcro mounting system. Not sure until I get the part in my hands but eventually I want it on the steering wheel.
i suggest you take your part number to the parts department, it will be much faster.
I mounted it temporarily, it will probably be permanent because in order to mount it on the steering wheel where it belongs, you will need to spend about 200 bucks for a new clock spring and some other junk that goes inside the steering wheel. ill get pictures tomorrow, im lazy right now i dun want to do it lol
No hurry, for now I will just to a temp. Mounting as well but eventually I would like it in the steering wheel. I saw a shop here that does cruise control for about 350CAD and up, so the 200 plus 18US for the switch does not sounds bad especially with how good the Canadian dollar is doing lately.
Not sure exactly what a clock spring is but I’m guessing it’s not some generic part. Maybe I’ll ask the parts mgr. while I’m there. Maybe even get some part numbers.
If you get AC and an automatic transmission you are considered LS, those are the only 2 options I have
Mine has no AC, it was an advertised special vehicle and was the last one. The color I wanted and everything! The no AC thing was a good excuse to immediately good get a tint. But now I wish I had AC. Another topic I would like to explore.
I’ve looked around on the net and the best I can find is AC condensers on eBay, and I saw one place that did aftermarket ac for an Aveo but nowhere near me.
Wait! Do I understand this right? To install cruise on a 2006 Aveo with drive-by-wire you just need to install the switch? What about the cruise control module? Is that function handled by the drive-by-wire system? Am I missing something here?
nope its pretty simple really, just buy the switch, everything is controlled by the computer
I went down to the dealer thursday afternoon and ordered the part, no clue how much it is yet, but im guessing around 20 bucks CAD.
when I asked how log they said "a few days" so im hoping for this week.
khan4rtist:
did you get any pictures of yours yet?
Does the switch have some electronics in it? Why can't I just use two toggle switches and mount somewhere? Like on either side of the hazard switch.
I got the part and installed it, works great, it was $48 CAD
Mounted it nicely just below the cd player, seems to fit there nicely
i think it has special circuitry in it....Quote:

After further research I found this link The switches are in parallel and each flip of the switch changes the voltage which is what the computer (or cruise control module in other cars) senses to control the speed.

finally got un-lazy somehow, and here is the picture.

Not the greatest camera but you get the idea. It sits in there tight, doesn’t seem to move around and is easily visible (in the day)
Installed the switch, checked the continuity of the splice and drove it. Cruised right along and resumed and all. Have 5 volts DC across the two green wires (pins 6 and 7). Upon closer inspection I notice that I don’t have the light green/blue wire in pin 2. This pin is 5-volt reference. Any ideas why?
And there is no cruise indicator light. No bulb. Where is the indicator, up on the dash where the clock is or but the speedo and tach? Anyone installed a bulb? Is it difficult?
I didn't read any of the thread so I hope I don't reiterate what someone else has said. I purchased and had a shop install a very nice cruise control for my Saffs_wheee. It's made by Rostra.com here are the part numbers: CRUISE CONTROL
CUSTOM CRUISE 250-1753 AUTO 250-1753 & 250-4371 MANUAL
We have a maual so it's the 250-1753 plus the 250-4371 manual adaptor.
The cost is 200$ from the rostra dealer: http://www.mnrelectronics.com/avcrcokit25c.html
It was 300$ to have it installed. Time to install was 2-1/2 hours. So it was 550$ total out the door.
Very happy with it, the handle is below the turn signal lever tucked up tight as not to hit your knee on the way into the car.
Function is excellent, clutch release and brake release, resume... blah blah. Saff commutes 120 miles a day to and from San Francisco. This is a needed and welcome addition. I'll try to take a pic of the handle and post it.
I just want to say khan4rtist rocks!! Thanks for finding this mod. I really wanted cruise control and was gonna buy the 200 dollar kit, and then I found this thread. I bought this switch and in a half hour and now I have cruise control for fifteen bucks! So this really works!
Just moved this post here.
My DIY cruise stopped working on my 06 Aveo5 5 speed after a few years of 100% reliable use.
I attempted a few things to repair to no avail (re wired AND bought a new switch, disconnecting battery )
I occasionally get a code, not a direct quote but something like speed sensor low voltage. Also after it throws the code my RPM Limiter is reduced to 5000RPM (From 6500)
anyone have any idea what to try next? or what could be causing this?
sounds like a bad speed sensor signal..? i would suggest trying to get a reading from it in real time, and look what spec would be.
i dont even know which sensor would throw a code like that? timing? crank sensor?
I will try and reproduce code and get the exact quote. what do you mean by real time reading? is that something I can do with the ODB-II reader? this http://www.auteltech.com/ms409.htm is the reader I have by the way. thanks for the help rabbit.
it might? it looks like it you can access it, it will come out in graph form like the screen shows. it must be under freeze frame, or the emissions thing (i dont still have the window up)
wish i could help further with that particular unit, i need to use stuff to know what it can do.
you might need to find the switch and hook a multimeter into it to see what voltages it reads and compare to spec readings.
Ok I couldnt get the code to come back but I had a record of the code.
it is P0502
"Vehicle Speed Sensor A Circuit Low"
since I cant get it to come back I cant get a reading in real time right?
well a reading is a "copy" of the signal the sensor is sending in eal time. so if you can find the signals channel, or hook it up to a multimeter, then yes you can get a real time reading.
I don't think my odb-II reader has anything like that, or I have no clue how to access it. I have went through all the menus and failed to find any graphs. so I guess I will have to check with a multimeter. Is there only 1 speed sensor on these vesicles? any idea where it is?
Thanks for the support rabbit.
I'm guessing a GM dealer wouldn't want to help me with this one. they would probably say something like "why are you revving past 5000 anyways? no wonder your having problems!" not to mention the McGiverd cruise control.
does your car have abs?
i am thinking it is either the speedo sensor in the tranny, probably near the bellhousing. or one of the abs sensors..if you have that.
technically, a sensor problem is separate form the cruise, even though the cruise wont work. so the dealer should fix it.
No ABS. I will look around the bellhousing. Ill do a quick search on here to see if I can find any speed sensor references
i assume the tranny is the same. so if you look behind the bell housing past the shifter. you will see a "plug" with wires just to the passenger side. that should be it.
best picture?!?:
