2010 Windshield Wiper Problem (getting tangled with each other)

The wiper on my driver side keeps getting tangled with the passenger side. When I flip the wipers up from the windshield both move back and forth fine. But when they on on the windshield the driver side moves slowly and then the passenger side hits it and gets messed up. Is the motor going out on the driver side? Is this something I can fix myself?

For anyone else with this problem try tightening the nut on the arm of the wiper. Its covered by a plastic tab that easily pops off with a screw driver. 13mm nut

you also have to remember that the Aveo uses UNEQUAL LENGTH Wiper Blades; 22" on the Driver's side, and 18" on the passenger side. if you use the same length blades, they will interfere with each other.

hmm, I just got new blades. The Advance Auto recommendation was 22 and 19. The 19 goes on the passenger side. It sticks off just enough for the blade to not engage. I would go with 22 and 18!
Please do not power off, firmware update pending.....

James22 what ended up being the fix for this? Was it just the nut? Just happened to me 2 hours from my destination so I pulled onto the nearest exit. Only a screwdriver with me, no sockets. Might have a Gerber tool. Once the rain clears I'm going to my destination several hours late thanks to this wonderful piece of engineering.

It must have been the nut.

If tightening it didn't work (maybe it stripped the splines from working back and forth too much while loose), you may have to drill & put a thin bolt through it, like a cotter pin. I had to do that once on an old VW Rabbit's driver side wiper arm.
