It's a stainless steel exhaust system. Chevy never mentions it as a selling point (because GM is stupid not to), but generally they are only found on much more expensive cars. You will be glad it has it as the years go by, as it won't rust like an ordinary exhaust would. Another of my cars is a 22 year old Mitsu Galant and it has all the original stainless exhaust with the exception of the front pipe, which I replaced 5 years ago. Don't be surprised if it makes weird pinging noises while cooling down as well. My Aveo doesn't make the weird noises but my Mitsu did for the first few years.
Also, beware of running over loose, flying plastic bags. If one gets caught anywhere on your exhaust it will stink like hell until it burns off. It can happen on any car, from a brand new one to an old clunker.
